When it comes to getting fit and healthy, there’s one major aspect of your life that can be altered to help achieve your goals: your diet. Now, chances are that if you’re at the start of your health kick, your diet hasn’t been the best that it can be lately. There are various things about it that you could change: cutting out carbs, cutting out fat… the list goes on and on. But these tend to be temporary changes. It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll cut these things out of your diet forever, as they are necessary to keep things balanced and to give you the nutrition that your body needs in the long term.
There are things in your diet that you can completely cut out permanently where the results will benefit your overall health and wellbeing. These foods tend to be red meats. Various studies have shown that consuming red meat increases your risk of developing various serious diseases and health complaints, such as heart disease, diabetes, and higher levels of cholesterol.
However, if you do cut red meat out, you need to replace certain nutrients and vitamins that it supplies you with. One of the most important things that red meat can provide you with is protein. There are some great plant-based meats and meat alternatives available so here’s everything you need to know about getting sufficient protein in your diet without turning to meat!
Protein Supplements are perhaps the easiest way to get a little extra protein into your diet. Why? Well, they’re specifically formulated and manufactured to contain high levels of protein. When we generally think of supplements, we tend to think of tablets, capsules, or pills. But when it comes to protein, you’re generally best incorporating protein powders, spreads, or bars into your diet.
Luckily, there’s a one-stop shop where you can purchase all of these products: Sinister Lab – The World’s First Hardcore Food Co. They also have alternative products such as panic pancakes, which help you to get your protein fix in a ridiculously delicious dessert. If you happen to be upping your exercise regime at the same time as your diet, these products will also help you to build muscle quickly and effectively!
Protein Packed Ingredients
When you cut red meat out of your diet, you’re going to have to switch up your meal plans a little. So while you’re coming up with new recipes, try incorporating protein-packed ingredients into the mix.
Quinoa is a relatively new addition to the mainstream grocery store. However, it contains eight grams of protein in every cupful serving, so it’s definitely something to add to your shopping list. It’s so healthy that NASA is looking into growing it on interplanetary flights!
Seitan was developed by Buddhist monks as a direct red meat substitute. It contains an almighty twenty-one grams of protein for every one-third of a cup serving, so it’s great for a quick protein boost. Bear in mind, however, that this is one to miss if you are avoiding gluten in your diet.
If you’re thinking of making the change then it can be a bit daunting to start with, meal planning can help you work out what you’re eating enough of, and what you need to increase. We’ve got two great printables for you:
