Self-esteem is one of those things you earn by doing things. If you are not doing what you are capable of, you know you’re underachieving, and so you can’t talk yourself into building up your own self-esteem. It’s hard to fool the most important person – you.
Take some action today that will make you feel good about yourself. It could be something as simple as cleaning out one closet! We always feel good after a “job well done.”
Self-esteem affects how we behave towards ourselves and other people. It can also affect how successful you can be in life. What is self-esteem’s role in our lives? It dictates how confident we are in facing life and the challenges it brings in front of us.
Having healthy self-esteem changes our outlook towards life. It makes us more positive which gets reflected in every task we perform, whether it is our job or at home or our relationship with others. Good self-esteem helps us to become more positive, and thus we should make sure that it is nurtured in each one of us, so how do we ensure having a healthy self-esteem? Here are a few steps that will help you boost your self-esteem:
1. Love And Appreciate Yourself
The first thing we need in order to build to have self-esteem is self-appreciation. You must be ready to accept yourself for who you are and not fall prey to the pressure of what others want you to be. Take yourself as you are, treat yourself as you want others to do for you.
When you love yourself, others will love you too. Be grateful for what you have and take good care of yourself. Know that- You are unique in every possible way.
2. Do What You Love
It happens that people often tell us to do things in a certain way or to follow certain ideologies. It’s good to listen to others but this may not always be right.
Most of the time you are more creative, productive and confident when you do what you like. And doing such a thing will give you a good feeling and a sense of life. You will want yourself more and thus boost your self-esteem.
3. Write Down Your Good Qualities
Even the most positive people may sometimes feel low. The best way out of this funk is to pen down your positivities and what you are good at. It will help you to acknowledge your strengths and increase your self-esteem when you are going through a bad time.
You can know more about it by reading this article: “How to boost your self-esteem by writing your good qualities”
4. Have A Life Goal
It’s always good to run through your goals every day. It keeps you motivated and geared up, also it doesn’t let the fire in your belly calm down. All this helps you achieve what you want. Ask yourself questions like how you see yourself after 10 or 20 years? You will be motivated to do what you wish to achieve your goal for yourself.
Even if you don’t reach your goal, you will learn and achieve many things on your journey so you will always be a winner. It will make you feel more confident and positive thus boosting your self-esteem helping you get ready to face all the challenges that the world may put in your path
5. Have Small Goals Too
It’s always good to have small and achievable goals. Big goals are something to aim for but having small targets are comfortable and, when you achieve them, it will boost your confidence making you believe in yourself and thus enhancing your self-esteem. Break your big or life goals into small achievable goals and try to achieve your short-term goals and celebrate when you get success.
6. Ask Yourself, “How Can I Do It”?
If you are having a problem with doing or achieving something, don’t lose hope. Instead of being depressed, ask yourself “how can I do it?” or “how can I get it?” Or “how can I be successful?”
Moulding your mind to think positively, start thinking about achieving the goals rather than being negative and focusing on why you couldn’t achieve it.
7. Help Others
Being happy is the key to having high self-esteem. The level of happiness you feel escalates to another level when you do something for others without expecting payment or reward.
You can have feel pure joy and satisfaction when you help others and you don’t need to be rich or in a position of power to help others. Just make an effort to make someone smile.
These small gestures will help you become more benevolent and enhance your level of self-confidence.
8. Drop Your Negative Friends
Stop being in the company of negative people. These people don’t grow emotionally and will not allow others to flourish. Try to be with proactive, positive people and drop negative minded people if possible.
In most cases, if you always hang out with your negative minded friends, you will eventually become one of them.
9. Compare Your Past With Your Present
Don’t fight the battle of competing with others, compete with yourself instead.
You should first aim to be a better person than you were yesterday. Try to compare your yesterday to your today.
If you find no change then you should know you have to do something about your efforts and not focus on what others are doing.
10. Track Your Habits
One of the best ways to conquer negative self-evaluations is to challenge or dispute them using a Habit Tracker. It can be done by identifying and challenging our negative self-evaluations and developing more balanced self-evaluations, over time you will be able to see your progress and want to continue
Improving your self-esteem is easier said than done; I genuinely believe this but, if you wish to achieve anything in life having some level of self-esteem is mandatory. It is directly proportional to your confidence level and eventually affects how to perform on the stage of life.
We have all got just one life and this need to make it the best. Make sure that no one hampers your self-esteem. Having a healthy self-esteem gives you a positive outlook towards life and thus helps you perform better.
