A career in childcare can be extremely rewarding. You’re teaching future generations, watching them grow into adults and discover their passions and subjects that may want to take further in the future to craft out a career. But there are a few things to consider before going into childcare.

Further Education And Training

Part of becoming a teacher or having a career in childcare is the extra training and further education you will need in order to be qualified to do the job. As for many industries, it’s an investment into your career, and this may vary depending on what type of childcare you’d like to do. For example, if you’re wanting to work with disabled children, then there’s plenty of disability training courses in Perth that might be suitable for what’s needed in order for you to secure a role. So you want to make sure that you are ready to effectively return to education as there will be plenty of tests and exams to take.

You’ll Need Patience And Flexibility

With childcare, there’s a level of patience and flexibility that’s needed in whatever role you go into, and for some, that’s not for them. Working with children requires a great deal of patience and their personalities are going to be all individual and unique. That means a lot of characters to handle, so it’s important you’ve got the personality yourself to be able to deal with them all. Flexibility is also needed in childcare because your working hours may not be the typical 9-5 that many may be used to. You may have to start earlier, finish later and on occasion, weekend work might be required for excursions etc.

Is Salary Important?

It’s known to be the case that a salary within childcare isn’t going to be the best and therefore if the salary is important to you then you may want to rethink if this is the right career for you. Salaries are usually mid-range, and even though money is important, there’s plenty of other rewards that come with the job, as well as highlights throughout. These will often outweigh the salary.

From Passion To Profit

You Have To Like Kids

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious, but you have to like children to enjoy a career in childcare. Throughout your career, you’ll be communicating with children on a daily basis, and for the most part of their day, you’ll be the main contact and more so than their parents. So if you have younger children, they’ll look up to you as a parental figure and that can often be challenging. You’ll need to be kind but also professional in these situations and for some this environment where you’re with kids for so long, may be too much for some.
