No matter how much we try, there are moments in life when we simply want to give up. Have you ever had days when you simply have no energy to get out of that bed, not because you are sick, but because you keep asking yourself, “What am I getting up for?” You know you have to take out that trash but you just can’t seem to find the energy to pick up the stray empty box that is comfortably sitting a few steps from the trash can. You look at the kitchen sink and you don’t remember when you last washed your utensils.
Lack of motivation is a bad thing, especially where your livelihood and sanity are concerned. When you lack motivation, you will not be able to achieve your goals.
Do you want to lose that weight but keep putting it off? That is a lack of motivation. Do you have a DIY project that you can’t seem to start even if time is not the problem? Perhaps you lack motivation! Have you been meaning to attend that cooking class but keep putting it off? You lack motivation!
Unless your lack of motivation is a serious result of depression, there are ways to overcome it and get things moving.
Let’s have a look at a few things you can do to get and stay motivated:
Focus on the positive side
Start small and work towards achieving a bigger goal. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too much at the same time. Take small steps to work towards your goal and reward yourself every successful step of the way! Go get that men beaded bracelet, you deserve it!
Don’t underestimate yourself
Sometimes all you need is a little push and you will tackle things you never thought you could. Motivate yourself to make the first step. Quit doubting that you can do it and just go for it! For example, you may be questioning whether or not you can lose that weight.
Put on those comfy shoes and clothes, (it doesn’t have to be workout gear as you don’t want to scare yourself too soon), open that door and walk. Walk for at least 30 minutes and come back home. Don’t touch that “bad” food that puts you in this position. Same time tomorrow; put on your clothes and shoes and drag yourself out for that walk. Do it for at least 2 weeks with no expectations, just a 30-minute walk per day listening to your music or lost in your thoughts.
If you weigh yourself and find that you have lost weight, you will gain the self-confidence to keep going. You will be motivated to reach for the workout outfits and start working out in addition to walking and before you know it, that pesky weight will be history!
Imagine the result
Going by the weight example above, when you have done your walking and exercising for about month, start visualizing how you could look like six months down the road if you remain consistent. Imagine all those sexy outfits you don’t have to wish for at the store only to be reminded of your weight! When you start imagining the result, you will get motivated to keep going!
Get external support
You have to understand that try as you may, you simply can’t do everything on your own! Sometimes, you need that external support to get moving. Don’t be shy, go get it! Family and friends can be just the motivation we need when he hit that bottomless pit of lack of motivation.
An alternative to family and friends is finding and doing things you love. It could be reading that book, watching that movie, or going shopping. If you are into bracelets, go for that men stone bracelet you have been admiring or check out other bracelets.
