Do you feel like you’re stick in a rut?
Feel a bit “off” or “down”?
Well that’s completely normal and you’re not alone. Since the pandemic more and more people have reported being dissatisfied with their lives.
So, what’s going on?
Well you might be suffering from “lifestyle fatigue”.
What Is Lifestyle Fatigue?
Because we’ve been so disconnected from the world for so long, it’s meant that we’re disengaged from our social groups, work colleagues and social life in general.
They’ve termed this “Lifestyle Fatigue”.
In a Huffington Post article they say that this is very close to “anhedonia” which is an inability to feel pleasure.
Now I’m not saying that if we feel like this we no longer feel joy at all, but because we’ve been cut off from our emotional support network and other social interactions it can be difficult for us to find happiness in everyday things.
Sure, it’s getting better but with the Pandemic still lurking in the background and with a lot of us unable to interact as we used to it’s easy to see why we might be fatigued with our lives as they are.
It’s Not Just About Boredom
You might think that lifestyle fatigue is all down to being bored with the situation you’re in but that’s far from the case.
Because of the pandemic we’ve mentally conditioned ourselves to be wary of certain situations – no big crowds, 6 feet apart. You know the drill.
Even though our governments might be telling us the pandemic is over (it’s not but I won’t get into that here), our minds have been conditioned over the past two-and-a-half years to avoid certain situations.
This isn’t just about depression or burnout though – people might confuse their feelings as such. It’s more about missing a lifestyle “that was”.
And it’s completely normal.
However if this feeling goes on for so long that you feel it’s having a detrimental affect on your life then it may be best to contact a professional who can help you talk through your feelings.
How To Break Through Lifestyle Fatigue?
If you want to try and break out of this rut on your own there are a few things you can do to begin to move forward.
Focus on yourself
Self-care is the first step.
Whether it’s a warm bath and some candles, a movie and some popcorn set some time aside for yourself. Get into a routine of a “feel good groove” and that will slowly spread to other areas of your life.
Keep your brain going
If you keep your brain active then this can also help stave off the feelings you’re having and even improve how you’re feeling.
Read a new book, take an online course(affiliate link), learn a language or make a recipe you’ve never tried before.
If you find something interesting in everyday things, you may find that you start to just generally become interested in more general things and your overall outlook will improve.
Your feelings are valid and you are free to deal with them however you want, but remember that there are people out there that can help you if you need it.
