Working from home can be easy, efficient, and comfortable if you’ve got all the right pieces in place. Here are some simple tips for setting up your own home office space.

Location is key. Choose a room in the house that is quiet and has a door you can open and close. You want to avoid being out in the open and exposed to household chaos and noise. Privacy will help you stay attentive and focused on the task at hand.

Choose an ergonomically friendly chair. You don’t want to spend the whole day in an uncomfortable chair or position. Strain on your physical body can cause you to be distracted and uneasy. Find a chair with lumbar support that will keep you comfortable and pain-free all day long.

Set up an external monitor. Having a larger display for your computer screen will do wonders for your eyes as well as improve your overall workflow throughout the day. Simply connect your laptop to the monitor of your choosing and see how much your efficiency improves.

You’ll also want to invest in a good pair of headphones. Preferably, you want them to be noise cancelling to help block out any distractions. This will keep you focused and on track with your agenda for the day.

Find the right tools. There are so many important tools needed when working from home. Things like team messaging, screen sharing, and file sharing will help you stay connected with your team and accomplish tasks.

Watch out for your background for those video calls. You don’t want your room to look messy and unorganized when video conferencing. Keep things clean, neat, and professional.

Don’t forget to go with a wired connection as opposed to WiFi. You don’t want to have internet issues throughout the day as that will slow down your productivity. An Ethernet adapter or docking station will be the perfect set-up.
