If you’re looking for a new and exciting sport to try in 2023, look no further! In this blog post, we will discuss 5 unique sports that you may not have heard of before. From Strongman to Quidditch, there is something for everyone. Get out there and give these sports a try!

1. Strongman

Strongman is an extreme strength sport in which competitors compete in a series of challenges. It has been around for ages but has really been skyrocketing in popularity over the last decade with events such as World’s Strongest Man bringing it to the mainstream audience.

The sport of strongman includes things like lifting, carrying and dragging heavy items, such as cars, logs and atlas stones. If you think you have what it takes to take on some of the toughest challenges around, then this could be the sport for you!

2. Pickleball

Pickleball is an exciting and fast-paced game that’s great for getting some exercise in the fresh air. This increasingly popular sport is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It’s played with a hard paddle and wiffle balls on small courts – making it the perfect game for people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy.

The rules are simple: two or four players use their paddles to hit the ball back and forth over a net, trying to score points by getting the ball to touch the ground more than once on the opponents’ side.

3. Quidditch

If you’re a fan of the Harry Potter books, then you’ll know all about Quidditch. Only that in reality, it’s not played while flying on broomsticks.

It’s a popular sport in which two teams of seven players attempt to score goals by throwing the quaffle (a volleyball) into their opponent’s goal. It has become an increasingly popular sport, with international Quidditch tournaments taking place every year.

Editor’s Note: Note that as late July 2022 Quidditch leagues have renamed themselves “Quadball” to distance themselves from J.K Rowling and her views on trans rights issues so you may need to search for both names if you’re looking for a local team or league.

4. Slacklining

Slacklining is a fantastic sport that offers a great way to stay fit and active. It involves balancing on a thin piece of webbing that’s been strung between two anchor points. It’s becoming increasingly popular due to its low-impact nature, and it can be a fun way to exercise whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned pro.

One of the reasons it’s so great is because it’s so accessible. You can set up the slackline between any two objects and be ready to go. Just make sure the ground beneath is safe to land on, in case you should fall.

5. Underwater Hockey

Underwater hockey is an unusual but exciting sport that’s played on the bottom of a swimming pool. It involves two teams of players using sticks to hit a weighted puck around the pool, while they themselves are wearing fins and snorkels. It requires quick reflexes, good teamwork and a bit of luck.

So there you have it – five unique sports to try in 2023! The great thing about all of the listed sports, except for slacklining, is that they’re team sports. And being involved in a team could help you stick to your fitness goals by keeping you accountable.

Each one offers its own challenges and rewards, so why not give one or two a go? You could find yourself with a new, exciting hobby that will keep you entertained for years to come. Have fun!
