So, listening to music may make you a better employee, as well as a happier one.

You may have to work on improving job performance or they may require training or college coursework, before you’re eligible for advancement. By asking about the possibility, you’re expressing your interest in your job and that may make you more appealing than other candidates. Working towards a personal goal or self-improvement is the best way to stay motivated and better enjoy what you do.
By taking steps to make yourself happier at work, you can also improve your work performance. Job satisfaction and performance often go hand in hand. Even where there may be some major issues about your job that you dislike, you can still take steps to make any situation more enjoyable and more advantageous to your own future.
