Worth about $49.2 billion in 2019, the makeup industry continues to be a thriving market with innovative products each year to attract new customers and keep existing ones loyal.
While it is true that makeup helps us enhance our features and is an amusing way to express ourselves, there are plenty of other ways to define our beauty. Furthermore, being able to carry around your bare, natural look is always better than having to rely on cosmetics.
With our hectic schedules, there might be days when we have to skip our morning routine. But we do not want to look like a drab, do we? So, rather than be completely dependent on makeup, let us try these alternative ways to look drop-dead gorgeous even without concealers and foundations.
1. Embrace A Healthier Lifestyle
It is unarguable that the main key to a youthful glow is to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Various research has already proven that with a balanced diet and regular exercise, you protect yourself from contracting lifestyle-related illnesses and diseases and help your skin look younger and refreshed.
One study concluded that fruits and vegetable consumption is the best way to keep a balanced diet and maintain youthful appearing skin. Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants which help free our bodies from free radicals. These free radicals cause damage to our cells, proteins, and even DNA.
With regular exercise, you help tone your muscles and strengthen bones. As we work out, we increase our system’s blood flow, nourishing our skin cells with oxygen. As we sweat during exercise, our pores release waste build-up, purging out toxins in our body.
2. Get Enough Beauty Rest
Our body repairs itself while we sleep. Having enough beauty rest is essential if you want to look and feel good.
Having 6 to 8 hours of good night sleep helps slow down your aging process, remove dark circles under your eyes, and help you achieve a glowing complexion. Apart from these benefits, being well-rested keeps you stay alert, focused, and positive throughout the day.
If you do not have a fixed sleep schedule yet, try to have one. And if possible, avoid using gadgets at least 1 to 2 hours before your sleeping time.
The human adult body is said to be made up of 60 percent water. Furthermore, every system in our body is reliant on water. It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for us to stay hydrated every day.
Physicians and dieticians recommend at least eight glasses of water intake a day to keep your body hydrated. Water helps flush out toxins in our body and keeps our skin look supple and glowing.
If you are not a fan of water, a fun way to follow the daily recommended allowance is to fill your water bottle with lemons, cucumbers, strawberries, and mint leaves.
4. Consistent Skin Care Routine
We cannot discount the importance of a good skincare routine to keep a drop-dead gorgeous bare, natural look.
Knowing your skin type is of utmost importance as this helps you figure out the best skin care routine that works for you. Also, it gives you an idea of what kinds of products you need to use. To maintain healthy skin, you need to follow the CTM or cleansing-toning-and-moisturizing routine.
Once you have established a morning and night routine, follow it consistently. It is guaranteed you will see impressive changes in your skin’s appearance.
5. Be Well-groomed
Looking youthful extends as well on how well-groomed you keep yourself. This covers your hair, wardrobe, hygiene, and posture.
Ensure you have well-fitting clothes that flatter your figure. Get your hair trimmed at least once every two months. You may even consider changing your hairstyle to something that suits you. Pamper yourself as well at least once a month with some facial, mani-pedi, and eyebrow treatment.
Overall, stay neat every day by showering, grooming your hair, and keeping yourself clean.
Apart from these, maintain a proper posture. Not only will a proper posture help avoid back and neck strain, but it has a huge impact on your appearance.
6. Exude Positivity
More than we like to admit, our mental attitude has a huge impact on how we look. No amount of cosmetics, jewelry, or clothing could cover up how negative you feel. Thus, fostering a positive mental attitude helps a lot in keeping yourself looking young and healthy.
Engage in positive activities that genuinely make you happy, read motivational books, and spend some time meditating.
7. Seek Professional Help
Lastly, you may also consider seeking professional help if you think you have a physical imperfection that only a cosmetic surgeon can fix. Essentially, there is nothing wrong with plastic surgery. As long as it makes you happier and more confident, no one is stopping you.
While we cannot discount the help of makeup in highlighting our beautiful facial features, there are many other ways to look younger and feel more confident.
