You probably have something that you are excellent at, a few things you a good at, and then everything is you do if you need to but don’t expect it to be groundbreaking. You do your best, which is all you or anyone can ask for.

But have you considered that this could perhaps be holding you back? Jack of all trades, master of none, if a phrase for a reason, and so it is essential to not go all in on something that you don’t have a knack for. But building on your existing skills, or even adding more to your portfolio could open opportunities that you never thought you would find. You never know, you might be better at these new skills than what you can do already.

Expanding on your skillset is a vital part of personal growth. But too many of us get stuck in a bubble of comfort and don’t want to embark on something that might lead to failure. Coming out this comfort zone, though, could be very beneficial.

Volunteer

While you won’t earn any money from volunteering, you can still improve your skill set. Doing volunteer work around the community will help you make connections with others as well as allowing you contribute towards helping society.

And just because you don’t get paid doesn’t mean it is a thankless job. Working with at-risk youth and the less fortunate is good for your mental health. Furthermore, it can provide you with skills that are essential in navigating life, and could introduce you to experiences that make you reconsider where you are in life.

Branch Out

Getting out of your comfort zone may seem scary, but that is the same with everything worth doing in life. Taking risks is a massive part of self-improvement, and even if it doesn’t catch on, at least you tried.

There are always opportunities to branch out around every city in the world. You can learn to work on things that might help you progress at work that you are not wholly comfortable with – such as coding or first aid – that can grant you further opportunities in the workplace. Alternatively, you can try something new to do in your spare time that might become your new hobby.

Improve What You Know

Another option for self-expansion is to improve what you already know. This can go a long way towards becoming more qualified in an industry you already have a lot of experience in. Whether it be further qualifications in business or education or anything in between, you will be able to demonstrate a dedication to your current job and show initiative.

Additionally, you can take tests which brush up on everything you learned at school for more opportunities. This includes maths and English and starts with a free online test to see your grade to see where you need to improve.

Undertaking steps to improve yourself can lead to massive opportunities and give you the chance to achieve things that you may have put to the side due to the rigours of the real world. Managing to find the time to improve yourself is something that everyone should strive to achieve, and reap the benefits that come with it.
