A new version of the Personal Information Manager (PIM) called Chandler has been released to the general public.

Why they named it after a character from “Friends” I don’t know. What I do know is that it looks very pretty.

It looks quite promising, especially as Thunderbird still has no in-built calendaring function. I look forward to the time when Chandler has its own integrated email.

Chandler is an open source Personal Information Management (PIM) client application with innovative design and ambitious plans for sharing, extensibility and cross-platform support. This vision overview or roadmap (Jim McCarthy  – affiliate link – would call it a “technology plan” or “a Tomorrowland that has credibility”) explains our high-level ideas for achieving these ambitions.

 

I haven’t had a chance to look at it properly yet but it’s on my list of things to do this weekend.

  1. “Never used it Flip. If I worked for myself, it might be an option, but in the corporate environment, I’d be lost without Outlook/Exchange and it’s synchronization to my Treo. It does look pretty though :)”
