There are lots of benefits of working from home, including being able to cook your own lunch, having to travel less, and being able to work your own hours. However, working from home can seriously decrease your productivity as there is always something to distract you from your work. If you find that you spend more time trying to get work done than actually getting it done, then you may need to think of ways to make your home office more productive. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Sort Your Tech

As great as technology is, it can be a right pain when it stops working properly. This completely slows you down, which will reduce your productivity. If worse comes to worst, you may even have to stop what you’re doing completely to try and figure out how to fix the issue. Having an IT partner means that your IT issues will be fixed quickly so that you can get back to business.

2. Declutter Your Space

You may see your office as an “organized mess”, but in fact, it’s just a mess. When your office is untidy and unorganized, it can be incredibly difficult to focus on what you’re doing, especially when what you’re doing requires you to find important paperwork. To improve productivity, tidy your office, install some storage, and get your files organized.

3. Get Comfortable

You are going to be spending a lot of time in your home office, and if you want that time to be as productive as it can be, then it makes sense to get yourself comfortable. Ensure you have a well-made and comfortable office chair to avoid any back pain. You can also get a supportive mouse mat, adjustable desk, and anti-glare screen covers for your computer.

4. Dress To Impress

You should be comfortable when you’re in your office, but you also need to know when to draw the line. Avoid wearing pyjamas to work, as you may get yourself too comfortable and be too unproductive. You will also have to rush around to get dressed when you have to video call someone important.

5. Set Working Hours

Just because you have an office at home and could potentially work whatever hours you want to, it doesn’t mean that you should. Set hours that you’re going to work each day, and stick to them. When you’re working, you should be working, not doing the housework or walking the dog. Similarly, if you’ve finished work for the day, leave work in your office and spend time with your family.

6. Be Firm With Friends

When you work from home, family and friends don’t really understand that you are still supposed to be working even though you’re at home. Because of this, they may pop around unannounced, or pester you to go and see them. Tell them the hours that you work, and say that you can’t visit anyone or have visitors during these hours. If you’re not firm, they will keep pushing.

It can be hard to be productive at home, but this advice should be able to help.
