The UK Olympics Committee unveiled the logo for the London 2012 games today. Tony Blair said:
When people see the new brand, we want them to be inspired to make a positive change in their life
The the Olympic Committee President says:
"This is a truly innovative brand logo that graphically captures
the essence of the London 2012 Olympic Games - namely to inspire young
people around the world through sport and the Olympic values.
"Each edition of the Olympic Games brings its own
flavour and touch to what is now well over a century of modern Olympic
history; the brand launched today by London 2012 is, I believe, an
early indication of the dynamism, modernity and inclusiveness with
which London 2012 will leave its Olympic mark."
And the new logo....
Am I missing the point? How is that mess supposed to inspire me? And why would it encourange me to make a positive change? I dread to think how much money this branding exercise cost.

I've added more Ajax functionality to the site. Typing in the Search Box on the right automatically lists related tags for you to search on.
When Web 2.0 first started, I was like "Yeah, right, whatever" but I tell you what, this stuff is cool!

Hmm.... now what to do next? Suggestions welcome!

I've finally started to learn
Ajax and you can see the start of my "playing" by clicking on the comments link. It should work in most browsers.
I've temporarily disable the Captcha stuff - it'll be interesting to see how much comment spam happens now.
Oh, an I noticed whilst testing the Ajax that the page is really messed up in Internet Explorer.
Sorry guys, but you should really use a
superior browser ;)

The dictionary defines motivation as:
To provide with an incentive; move to action; impel.
When someone enters your website,
it takes less than 1/20th of a second to decide whether or not they find your website visually appealing or not. This is quite a frightening statistic considering how long some websites take to load (to be fair, the users in this study group were flashed static images of the websites so load times were not a factor).
So how does design tie into motivation? It's about the way your site looks and how usable it is.
Personally I feel you can have a gorgeous site that people can navigate around easily but there are some out there who use nothing but flash navigation (some people have that blocked you know!), sub-menu after sub-menu, no discernable sections or page titles, bad colour choices (hey, I know I'm not one to talk.... but purple on black? Please?!) - the list goes on.
If you want to motivate your readers, viewers, audience - however you'd like to describe them - into engaging and interacting with your site you need a design that works well with the content on the page, that they can understand and can move about easily in.
In my previous post "
Motivate Yourself - Use the 'Fear Factor'" I said:
