I've just trekked 15 miles to my "local"
Job Centre 'Plus' only to be told that they don't actually deal with claims for "Job Seekers Allowance" - The Dole for you and me - instead it's now all done via call centre, how nice.
Fortunately it wasn't outsourced to India and the woman on the 'phone was very pleasant but I was on hold for a total of 20 minutes, at local rate as well.
And even now it's not sorted, I have to fill in a form that's going to be sent to me and then go for a meeting. But the funny thing is that I can't go for a meeting at my Local "Job Centre Plus", which should actually be called just "Job Centre" as they don't seem to do anything there, I have to go to the nearest City as the local one doesn't deal with claims.
Are they trying to make it deliberately difficult for people to claim money? I can understand the need to stamp out benefit fraud but as I have been out of work for almost a year, am a British Citizen and have paid National Insurance Contributions for 10 years or so I think I'm entitled to something, especially as there'll be no state pension left when I reach retirement age - if there's a retirement age by then.
And I have to wait 13 days until the interview which means I won't have any money for 13 days - if I'm successful which I probably won't be.
Sod's law says I'll get a job now and all of this will be moot anyway - Flipping typical!
