Review: Who Does - Web based project management

I recently received an email asking me to look into a new service called "Who Does2.0" (yes, it has 2.0 in the title and a funky URL but bear with me!)

Who Does is a web-based project management system that allows you to assign tasks and milestones to projects and assign them to team members. Okay, so nothing new there really, however watching the screencasts there are a few features that set it apart from other similar sites such as Back Pack.

Who Does - Web Based Project Management

I use Back Pack at work to manage the various client projects we have across our team, and whilst it is good at managing information and keeping it all in the same place so you can find it (especially useful if someone's off work and you need to figure out what they've been working on), I find the interface a bit clunky, old-school even in today's world of AJAX enabled sites.

Adding and managing to-dos is a bit of a chore and when composing messages formatting them properly is difficult for someone who doesn't know HTML, plus for the "little" guy there's no free plan in Back Pack, prices start at $24/month (Approx £12) for up to 6 users whereas Who Does offers a free plan which allows unlimited users in a single project.

Who Does - Project Milestones

The site allows you to quickly add and assign tasks to people, projects and milestones in a nice Ajaxy-style manner, which looks a lot more intuitive than the Back Pack way of doing things.

Who Does is split into 6 main areas, as described on their website :

My Workspace
Manage with simplicity the activities that need to be done daily, keeping the time constraints and the delivery dates under control.

Fast Planning
Plan your project in just a few minutes thanks to a simple and intuitive interface, a clear concept to make planning of activities faster.

Milestone
Manage all the due-dates within the project, being always informed with the next delivery dates and eventual dates late.

Task
Efficiently organize and assign the activities to the team members and keep track of the hours of work that was completed on a project with the convenient hour uploading system.

Team
Manage the Team members, invite your colleagues and link them to the project or search for new collaborators in the WhoDoes Network.

Repository
Archive and share the documents and e-mails of the project in a shared space. Up to 10Gb of online space where you can share with the team all the material and communication related to the project.

You can read more about the features and see screen casts explaining the functionality in the Explore section of the site.

If you're working on a project where multiple people are involved - espciallty if you're in different locations, I think that Who Does would be well worth checking out - especially as it'll cost you nothing to give it a whirl.
