It's been a while since I've written one of my more "business-like" motivational-type posts so I thought I'd get back into the swing of things talking about something that's close to my heart at the moment.
So, I'm in the middle of finishing off all my work so that I can begin life again as a "properly employed person" as Pops would call it. Whilst the money I am earning contracting is excellent, the lack of permanance (if that's a word), pension, holiday etc. is not really what I want in a job at this stage in my life.
However, I do feel exceptionally guilty about leaving this job. To be fair, it's only about the second time I've quit something with a job to walk into (See The Witch Hunt and The Kick in the Backside episodes) and I actually love what I'm doing for a change.
Being brought in to kick-start a department, doing so and watching it grow is the best feeling ever; being told that the company loves you, doesn't want to see you leave, can't cope without you but won't agree to take you on full time bites.
I knew that was going to happen, so why the company loyalty (and therefore sense of guilt)? Because I like the people I work with, I respect them and I want them and the company to do well.
Forget your 6 figure salaries, stupid benefit packages, garner respect from your employees and your company is set for life.
Now the main question is will I feel this loyalty for my new company?
We'll have to wait and see....
