I was in a rather strange mood last night. Partly due to the fact that sometime this week I've coughed up a lung, developed sleep aponea due to my snotty nose and haven't eaten (you have to love colds don't you?). Anyway, the upshot was that I didn't really want to be there for dominoes, especially after I was paired up with "The One Arm Bandit".
We started off okay, winning the first game, then the "Blah, Blah, Blah, you shouldn't have played that dominoe 15 goes back" started. Like I care, or could even remember what was on the table at that time! I ignored it the best I could but when he kept going on I thought "Right, this'll shut you up." So I started playing as though he wasn't there (not usually a good idea in a "team" sport"). I had a handfull of threes so I kept on 3'ing it up (that is, making it so there are threes on either end of the "field") and he kept knocking as he hadn't a single three. The main thing was though that I was scoring at a nice rate of knots. The other two couldn't go (and probably thought I was manufacturing 3s under the table), but we caught up nicely. Did I get any thanks? Did I heck.
Anyway, we ended up winning 2 out of the 4 games, with the team losing 9-7 overall. Shame really as we played the same team last week in a cup game and beat them 16-9!
This post was partly a message for
to let her know what went on. After last night's performance there is NO WAY you are getting out of dominoes ever again!
This post is also partly about motivation. Did it motivate me when I was told what I was doing wrong? What do you think? Did it motivate me when I didn't get praise when I did something well? Er... let me think about that one.
Whatever sport, game or business process you're doing, motivate those around you with a quick, pleasant word. It'll work wonders and you never know, you might not lose...
